When a cast-iron engine block sits exposed to moisture, it will quickly develop a thick layer of heavy surface rust! If you attempt to rebuild the motor without sending the block to a machine shop to be properly "hot-tanked" and cleaned, you are guaranteeing a catastrophic engine failure!
In this video, a mechanic uses a compression tool and a metal pick to remove the wedge locks from a brand-new valve spring. However, installing shiny new parts on top of a heavily oxidized cylinder head is like putting lipstick on a pig! The moment this engine starts, the intense heat and vibration will cause those rust flakes to detach and fall directly into the motor oil. That thick, abrasive rust will immediately clog the oil pump pickup screen, starving the engine of lubrication and completely destroying the internal rod bearings in a matter of seconds!
