Asia's largest high-speed rail beam yard completes 1,668 giant beams for new Shanghai rail lines

Asia’s largest high-speed railway beam yard has finished manufacturing 1,668 giant concrete box beams, each measured 32.6 meters long and weighed 370.7 tons, in Shanghai.

These heavy blocks will form the bridge structures for two major new rail lines in the Yangtze River Delta, allowing construction to finally move to the track-laying stage.

To maximize efficiency, engineers built the factory directly alongside the future rail corridors two years ago. At peak operations, it produced six massive beams a day, effectively extending the network by 200 meters every 24 hours.

With manufacturing complete, teams will spend the next month installing the remaining beams before building the tracks.

Both new lines are scheduled to open by the end of next year, connecting major hubs like Shanghai East and Baoshan stations.

Once operational, the new route between Shanghai, Nanjing and Hefei will fill a critical high-speed rail gap along the north bank of the Yangtze River, significantly easing traffic pressure on the heavily congested Beijing-Shanghai line.
