The Cambrian explosion remains one of the most compelling open questions in evolutionary science. Academician Shu Degan has advanced this field through decades-long research in evolutionary palaeontology. His key contributions include defining the extinct Vetulicolia group, discovering "The First Fish" fossil — Kunmingfish, and proposing the innovative three-episode hypothesis explaining how the first animal tree of life formed during the Cambrian explosion.
Octavia Basco, a French bachelor’s student from King's College London studying on exchange at Peking University, joins PKU Yenching Academy master's student Wang Zizhu for this conversation with the PKU 1969 geology alumnus.
