Singapore's first full-sized electric aircraft takes flight

A team from #NTUsg performing flight tests in Germany has flown Singapore's first electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for the first time – a historic milestone in the history of Singapore aviation.
The month-long flight-test campaign, performed in collaboration with experts from the German Aerospace Center (DLR), was the culmination of three years of research. Working with local and international partners, the team developed technology demonstrator aircrafts that were fully designed, engineered and built in Singapore.
In Germany, an 8-metre wingspan aircraft flew to heights above 90 metres while the 3-metre wingspan variant reached speeds of more than 120 km/h, with both aircrafts demonstrating the ability to hover, fly using its fixed wings, as well as transition between the two modes.
The invaluable flight data collected during the tests will be used to further develop technologies and build a base of knowledge and engineering expertise, advancing Singapore's aviation development capabilities.
