Bone china is made from a mixture of animal bone ash and clay, giving it more than three times the strength of conventional ceramic raw materials along with excellent heat retention. At this Korean porcelain factory, the liquid material is stirred for over 12 hours, poured into molds, and left to set for about 20 minutes until the hollow body of each mug takes shape. The pieces are fired at 1250 to 1300 degrees Celsius, smoothed by rapidly vibrating wooden beads, and inspected one by one for cracks, foreign matter, and small holes. Glaze is applied on a rotating table after the surface is preheated with a gas flame, and decals from a collaboration with French illustrator Thibaud Herem are bonded in an electric kiln. Watch the full process of how bone ash becomes the snow-white mug and plate sitting on your table.
