Can exoskeletons turn us into superhumans?🦾 Not quite.

Instead, they help us perform our tasks more safely and effectively. For Assoc Prof Yu Haoyong, this mission is deeply personal. Inspired by his late father's struggles with mobility after a stroke, he and his team are developing technology that restores not just movement, but independence and quality of life.

Their key innovation? Exoskeletons that don't control users but adapt intuitively to their movement.

This technology has the potential to:
• Restore lost functions in patients after a stroke or spinal cord injury
• Reduce physical strain and prevent injuries in physically demanding jobs
• Empower seniors to live independently

The NUS team has recently completed a trial at Tan Tock Seng Hospital to refine an exoskeleton developed to help patients regain arm movement.
