The 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP) China Shanghai round opened Friday at the Haiwan Outdoor Sports Field in Fengxian District, drawing 33 top teams from 22 countries and regions.
As the only Asian stop on the 2026 MXGP calendar, the three-day event features four competition classes — MXGP, MX2, 250cc, and 85cc — with more than 90 professional riders, including eight world champions.
Among the most watched participants is 14-year-old Zhang Qingtian, son of Zhang Xue, founder of Chinese motorcycle manufacturer ZXMOTO.
Competing in the 85CC youth class, Zhang made his international racing debut aboard a ZXMOTO machine.
A total of 22 young Asian riders are entered in the 85CC class this year.
Chongqing JHL Factory Racing Team has become the first Chinese manufacturer team to compete in MXGP.
Established in 2019, the team fields self-developed racing machines and has passed the full FIM qualification audit, completing vehicle certification, team registration, and rider licensing.
The Shanghai round marks the fourth time MXGP has been held in Fengxian and serves as a decisive battle for the 2026 world championship titles.
The Chinese presence at this year's event — from a manufacturer team to young riders — signals a new chapter for the country's motocross ambitions on the global stage.
