Driverless EV trucks, 5G and robo-dogs entering China's mines replace human labor

China is showcasing how AI and smart tech are rapidly turning traditionally dangerous, labor-intensive mining industry into a high-tech powerhouse at the 2026 China Mining Conference and Exhibition in Tianjin.

One of the biggest highlights at the exhibition is a four-legged robotic dog designed by Unissky. The robot is specifically built to go into hazardous, enclosed spaces underground where it is too dangerous for human workers.

CITIC MIC is introducing unmanned, purely electric mining trucks that extract ore without a driver.

In China, the deployment of underground zero-latency 5G networks alongside 3D digital replicas, or "digital twins", has accelerated the automation and safety of today’s mining sites.
