일주일 내내 비와 구름이 몰아닥쳐 참 눅눅했던 한 주입니다.

중3 아들은 여름방학이 끝나 매우 침울한 마음으로 학교에 가고,
저는 그 모습을 보며 오히려 조금 신이 났습니다.
드디어 다시 찾아온 엄마의 시간! 😆

그리고 이번 주에는 그동안 틈만 나면 들여다보던 SNS를 과감하게 지웠습니다.

잠깐만 보려고 들어갔다가 어느새 한 시간이 지나 있고,
그렇게 남들의 일상을 구경하는 동안 정작 내 하루는 너무 쉽게 흘려보내고 있다는 생각이 들었거든요.

그래서 이제는 SNS를 둘러보던 시간에
정원을 조금 더 돌보고, 책도 읽고,
우쿨렐레도 연습하고, 중국어와 스페인어 공부도 조금씩 해보려고 합니다.

거창하게 뭔가를 이루겠다는 건 아니고,
그저 하루에 흘려보내는 시간을 조금 줄이고
내가 좋아하는 것들로 하루를 채워보는 것.

그리고 8월 한 달 동안은 나름의 긴축재정도 실천하고 있습니다.
처음에는 과연 잘할 수 있을까 싶었는데 생각보다 꽤 잘하고 있어서
요즘은 스스로를 조금 칭찬해주고 있습니다. 😊

돈도 아끼고, 시간도 아끼고,
내 삶에 필요한 것과 그렇지 않은 것을 조금씩 구분해보면서
남은 8월은 조금 더 알차게 살아보려고 합니다.

물론 정원은 제 마음처럼 얌전히 따라와 주지는 않았습니다.

폭우가 지나가고 무더위가 찾아오면서
정원 곳곳이 마치 한바탕 폭격을 맞은 것처럼 엉망이 되어버렸거든요.
쓰러지고 꺾이고 녹아내린 꽃들을 바라보며 한숨도 좀 쉬었습니다.

그래서 다음 주부터는 미뤄두었던 정원 정리에 다시 힘을 좀 써야 할 것 같습니다.

비에 젖고 더위에 지친 정원을 다시 추슬러주고,
저도 흐트러졌던 일상을 조금씩 정리하면서
돈도, 시간도, 정원도 아껴 쓰는 8월​을 보내보려 합니다.

Another week of rain, clouds, and a very damp summer garden.

My middle-school son finally went back to school after a long summer vacation — and while he was feeling rather miserable about it, I was quietly enjoying the return of my precious alone time. 😆

This week, I also made a small but meaningful change.
I deleted the social media apps I had been checking whenever I had a spare moment.

I often went in just to take a quick look, only to realize an hour had disappeared. And somewhere along the way, I felt that I was spending more time looking at other people's lives than actually living my own.

So I'm trying something different.

A little more time in the garden, a little more reading, practicing the ukulele, and studying Chinese and Spanish.

Nothing too ambitious. Just trying to spend my time on things that genuinely make me happy and make my days feel a little more meaningful.

I'm also trying to stick to a tight budget throughout August. Surprisingly, I'm doing better than I expected, so I'm giving myself a little pat on the back. 😊

Saving money, saving time, and trying to make better use of both.

Meanwhile, the garden has had a pretty rough week. After days of heavy rain, the heat arrived, leaving parts of the garden looking as though they had been through a small natural disaster.

So next week will probably be all about cleaning up, cutting back, and helping the garden recover.

A quiet week of learning to look a little less at other people's lives, and a little more at my own. 🌿
