Traces of a Lost Green World Just Found in the Sahara

The Sahara is the largest hot desert on Earth today, but scientists have just uncovered new evidence that it was once a lush, green landscape filled with rivers, lakes, grasslands, and thriving wildlife. Hidden beneath the endless sand are traces of an ancient world where hippos swam, crocodiles hunted, and human communities flourished in an environment that looks almost impossible to imagine today. Recent discoveries are helping researchers reconstruct this lost ecosystem and understand how dramatic climate shifts transformed a fertile paradise into one of the harshest places on the planet. The findings reveal that the Sahara has repeatedly changed between green and dry phases throughout its history, reshaping life across North Africa each time. This video explores the newly discovered traces of the Sahara's forgotten green world, what caused it to disappear, and whether the desert could one day become green again.
