Russia, EU trade barbs as tensions escalate over nuclear umbrella, drone Incidents

Tensions between Russia and Europe flared anew this week.
Russia on Tuesday sharply criticized France's proposal to extend its nuclear umbrella to European allies.
The condemnation came after Finland decided to join the "advanced nuclear deterrence" program proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron, becoming the tenth European partner to sign on to the initiative launched earlier this year.
On the other hand, the EU's top diplomat urged member states to impose "greater costs" on Russia over a string of drone and military incidents across the continent.
She called for more sanctions, funding cuts and the continued targeting of Russia’s shadow fleet shipping illicit oil.
Kallas's comments came as Poland pledged increased security along its border with Ukraine after a wave of Russian drone strikes near the frontier, including two that landed within kilometers of Polish territory.
