What can we learn about geometry from a handwoven bamboo ball—or about fractals from a nursery rhyme?
Questions like these run through 𝑴𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑴𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑮𝒖𝒂 𝑫𝒊𝒆 (绵绵瓜瓞), Peking University’s interdisciplinary exhibition exploring pathways in intangible cultural heritage.
In this preview, ten PKU scholars from across the arts, humanities, sciences, engineering, and business offer their own readings of traditional materials, images, and techniques. Together, they examine how knowledge carried through practice can shape the questions we ask today.
Taking its name from a line in 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒔 (𝑺𝒉𝒊𝒋𝒊𝒏𝒈), 𝑴𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑴𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑮𝒖𝒂 𝑫𝒊𝒆 evokes melon vines bearing fruit in endless succession—an image of continuity across generations.
The exhibition will be on view in Macao, China, beginning September 7, 2026—the first stop on its global tour.
See where these pathways lead.
