〈일만 개의 선물〉은 작가의 작품이 다중의 일상 공간으로 들어갔다가, 다시 디지털 이미지로 전환되어 되돌아오는 순환 구조를 실험하는 작업이다. 2014년 일본 시가현립 도예의 숲 레지던시에서 시작된 이 작품은 10년이 넘는 시간 동안 세계 곳곳을 이동하며 수많은 이들과 소통의 매개로 작동해왔다. 작가가 건네는 ‘선물’은 인간의 본질을 상징하는 어린아이 두상과 본능을 상징하는 일본의 타누키(너구리) 형상을 본뜬 작은 도자 오브제들이다. 관객은 선택한 오브제를 각자의 일상 공간에 두고 이를 촬영해 작가와 공유하며, 작가는 이 이미지들을 개인 SNS를 통해 다시 공개한다. 이러한 과정을 통해 예술은 미술관이라는 한정된 장소를 벗어나 개인의 삶과 기억 속으로 확장되며 끊임없이 새로운 이야기와 관계를 생성해 나간다.
𝘛𝘦𝘯 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘎𝘪𝘧𝘵𝘴 is a work that experiments with a cyclical structure in which the artist’s pieces enter multiple everyday spaces and return as digital images. The artwork was initiated during the artist’s residency at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Shiga Prefecture, Japan, in 2014 and has traveled around the world for more than a decade, serving as a medium of exchange with countless individuals. The “gifts” the artist offers are small ceramic objects, modeled after the head of a child, symbolizing the essence of humanity, in addition to the figure of the Japanese 𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘬𝘪(raccoon dog), representing instinct. Viewers select an object and place it within their own everyday surroundings. They then photograph it and share the image with the artist, who then makes these images public through the artist’s personal social media accounts. Through this process, art moves beyond the confined space of the museum and extends into the lives and memories of individuals, continually generating new narratives and relationships.
