하나의 질문에서 시작해 여러 형식으로 확장해 온 작가, 박아론.

어릴 적 가족과 찾았던 완도 정도리 구계등 바닷가에서, 무수한 돌들이 바닥에서 떠오르는 듯한 감각을 경험합니다. 말로 설명하기 어렵지만 오래도록 선명하게 남은 그 순간. "이 감각은 어디에서 오는가", "왜 이토록 또렷하게 각인되어 있는가." 박아론 작가의 작업은 이 질문 하나에서 출발합니다.

프레임 안에 담기는 것이 인위적으로 느껴져 프레임 없는 공간을 택했고, 표면의 질감을 바꾸고 대비를 만들고 빛을 반사시키며 일상적인 것이 낯설어지는 지점을 찾아왔습니다. 조각 전공으로 시작해 디자인 일과 작업을 나란히 이어온 시간, 구상과 구현 사이에 늘 존재하는 간극, 그리고 관객이 잊고 있던 기억을 떠올리거나 익숙한 풍경에서 낯선 기분을 느끼기를 바라는 마음까지, 작가의 이야기를 담았습니다.

Aaron Park is an artist whose practice unfolds from a single question.

As a child, at Jeongdo-ri Gugyedeung Beach in Wando, he felt as though countless pebbles were rising from the seabed. The sensation was difficult to put into words, yet it remained vivid in his memory. Where does this sensation come from, and why does it stay so clearly? His work begins here.

Finding it unnatural to work within a frame, he turned to open spaces without one. He alters surfaces and textures, creates contrast, and works with reflected light to find the moments when ordinary things become unfamiliar. In this interview, he speaks about beginning as a sculpture major and building a life that holds both design work and artmaking, about the gap that always remains between an idea and its realization, and about hoping viewers might recall a forgotten memory or sense something unfamiliar in their own surroundings.
