與주도 '조작기소 특검법안' 오늘 본회의 통과
The National Assembly passed a controversial special counsel bill on Friday led by the ruling Democratic Party.
After the ruling party had proposed the bill on Thursday, the main opposition People Power Party launched a filibuster, halting the passage for 24 hours, as it described it as an attempt to protect the President from ongoing criminal trials.
The bill calls for an independent investigation into allegations that prosecutors and other authorities under former President Yoon Suk Yeol conducted politically motivated investigations and fabricated charges against political rivals.
Under the legislation, the special counsel team could include up to 309 personnel, with an investigation period of up to 200 days.
