Green upgrades accelerate China's push for zero-carbon factories

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is advancing the construction of zero-carbon factories in the country.
Zero-carbon describes factories that continuously achieve reduced CO2 emissions within the factory area and that are approaching near-zero through emission reduction measures.
At this factory in eastern China's Zhejiang Province that makes instruments, more than 2,200 metering perception nodes are installed across the factory area, to measure energy consumption and carbon emission data for each production line, piece of equipment, and process.
At a factory for Geely Auto in northwest China's Xi'an, a series of transformative projects like biomass natural gas substitution and energy-saving equipment upgrades have been implemented, which has helped achieve the deep decarbonization of their production system.
Company officials say they expect emission reductions across its entire industrial chain to reach 12,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent this year.
