The first grammar you learn in Korean?
Koreans kind of don‘t follow it. Let me explain 👇

📖 The rule:
You can’t put past tense before 아서/어서/여서(because)
It‘s 좋아서, never 좋았어서.

🗣️ Real life:
Turn on ANY K-drama or vlog and you’ll hear it everywhere.
좋았어서. 재밌었어서. 먹었어서.
The exact thing you were told not to say.

💡 So why?
According to a few researchers,
that little 었 isn‘t a mistake.
It stamps the reason as ”already done, a real finished thing.“
좋아서 = a flat ”because.“
좋았어서 = hits heavier, like you’re holding up that exact moment as the whole reason.

🏛️ Plot twist:
The National Institute of Korean Language used to call it wrong.
Now? They won‘t call it correct... but they won’t call it wrong either.
The official answer is shifting in real time. 👀

🚨 BUT important:
It‘s still not standard.
On TOPIK or formal writing, follow the rule.
좋아서. Every time.
