👀 Wait… 음료 is actually pronounced 음뇨? 🤯

This is a real pronunciation correction from one of my 1:1 feedback videos.

Most learners have never been taught this rule, so if you’ve been saying eum-ryo, you’re definitely not alone. 🫢

Here’s what’s happening.

When a word ends with ㅁ or ㅇ and the next syllable starts with ㄹ, that ㄹ is pronounced as ㄴ instead.

That’s why these words sound like this:

✔️ 음료 → [음뇨]
✔️ 동료 → [동뇨]
✔️ 대통령 → [대통녕]
✔️ 강릉 → [강능]

If you’ve been reading Korean exactly as it’s written, this is one of those pronunciation rules that can easily slip under the radar.
