Never stop rolling, the rock’n’roll kids ‘THE KOXX’ 진화하는 로큰롤 키드, 칵스

After witnessing their musical path in the past, we must admit that there isn’t a genre that quite fits The Koxx. As the one of their many nicknames ‘dancing nerve stimulator’ suggests, the band beams explosive energy on stage and their music full of daring tunes that transform their music from one genre to another can’t be compared to other rock bands. With 4 musicians; synthesizer SHAUN, guitarist Lee Su Ryun, Vocalist Lee Hyun Song, bassist Park Sun Bin, a rock band The Koxx was born.
As the old saying ‘Sandalwood is fragrant even in seed leaf’, The Koxx’s beginning with the debut EP album ‘Enter’ in 2010 was the very definition of extraordinary. The audacious sound and the performance that takes over the audience like tsunami wave differentiate them from other rock band and were more than enough to earn the critics compliments like, “The real party bastards”
Their name began ringing many music festivals’ ears not only in Asia but the world with the first official album ‘Access OK’. After releasing another EP album ‘Bon Voyage’ in 2012, the band had to take the long 3-years break due to the key members starting military service. And now they have returned with the official 2nd album ‘the new normal’ which is stuffed with even more broaden sounds. The Koxx’s ‘the new normal’ the fantastic mix of The Koxx’s traditional sounds and the groundbreaking attempts of new sound is a great announcement for the return of “the real party bastards”
Especially ‘The Koxx Magazine’ the concert series that each member being in charge of concept, directing and production of concert from January to April 2016 is the very genuine The Koxx’s march to meet the fans.
The 4 guys who are fun but not silly, serious but not heavy, Culture Magazine talked with Lee Su Ryun, Lee Hyun Song and Park Sun Bin of The Koxx.
그 동안의 행보를 종합해 본다면, 칵스의 음악을 하나의 장르로 단정짓기에는 다소, 아니 상당한 무리가 있을 것이다. 댄스 촉발 유발자라는 별명처럼 폭발하는 드라이브감과 복합적인 장르를 넘나드는 과감함, 그리고 무대를 휘어잡는 파격적인 퍼포먼스는 기존의 밴드와는 비교할 수 없는 비범함이 넘쳐나기 때문이다. 신디사이저 SHAUN, 기타 이수륜, 보컬 이현송, 베이스 박선빈으로 이루어진 4인조 밴드, 칵스.
‘될 성 부른 나무는 떡잎부터 알아본다’는 속담처럼 2010년 첫 EP 앨범 ‘Enter’로 공식적인 데뷔 무대를 알린 칵스는 그 시작부터가 예사롭지 않았다. 여느 밴드와는 확연하게 다른 폭발적인 사운드와 무대를 장악하는 파격적인 퍼포먼스는 그야말로 ‘놀 줄 아는 놈들’이 나타났다는 평을 받기에 충분했기 때문이다.
그리고 정규 1집 앨범 ‘Access Ok’를 통해 국내 유수의 뮤직 페스티벌과 아시아를 포함한 세계적인 페스티벌에서 그 이름을 알리기 시작한다. 2012년에 발표한 EP 앨범 ‘Bon Voyage’ 이후 멤버들의 군입대로 인해 3년간의 휴식을 뒤로하고 2015년 11월, 더욱 넓어진 사운드와 음악을 꾹꾹 눌러 담은 정규 2집 앨범 ‘the new normal’로 돌아왔다. 특히 기존의 칵스의 음악에서는 느낄 수 없었던 획기적인 시도와 칵스만이 할 수 있는 전형적인 사운드를 잘 버무려낸 ‘the new normal’ 앨범은 여전히 놀 줄 아는 녀석들의 귀환을 알리기에 충분했다.
특히, 지난 2016년 1월부터 시작해 4월까지 매달 멤버 한 명이 주인공이 되어 콘서트의 콘셉트를 포함한 모든 부분을 디렉팅해 진행해왔던 ‘더 칵스 매거진(THE KOXX MAGAZINE)’은 매번 새로운 모습으로 팬들과 소통하고자 했던 가장 칵스다운 행보라고 할 수 있을 것이다.
