The eternal lust for absolute beauty, a Japanese painter Ichiro Tsuruta 미를 향한 이유있는 갈망, 화가 이치로 츠루타

“What I ultimately wanted to paint was Japanese woman. However in extend of pursuing Japanese woman’s beauty can be of Asian woman’s eyes, faces and the structure of Asian woman’s face.” As the representative artist of Japan, Ichiro Tsuruta has started the portrait style of beauty over 40 years and has been continuing ever since.

In fact, his paintings are influenced by ‘Ukiyo-e’ the ancient Japanese paintings of young woman such as ‘Utamaro’ and ‘Hokusai’. Then he diversifies the style by fusing European ‘Artdeco’ style. A beautiful woman, that alone provides more than enough reason for him to paint. Nonetheless, painting a beautiful young woman is the main theme of his paintings.

As an artist, he set a new goal each year and once he achieves the goal, he finds another goal right away. He will always have new goal to achieve as long as he continues his artwork in pursue of beauty. Maybe, he would like to be respected in the world yet he would also like to pursue his own artistic world in Japan as well. CultureM Magazine meets the representative artist of Japan, Ichiro Tsuruta.

일본의 아름다운 여성을 넘어 동아시아 여성의 아름다운 모습을 화폭에 담기 위해 40년 동안 한우물을 파고 있는 작가 이치로 츠루타. 일본을 대표하는 일러스트레이터이자 화가로서 이치로 츠루타 작가의 미인화는 이미 독보적인 스타일을 구축해왔다.

사실 이치로 츠루타 작가의 작품은 ‘우타마로’라든지 ‘호쿠사이’ 같은 ‘우키요에(일본 에도 시대에 성행한 유녀나 연극을 다룬 풍속화)’를 참고로 하고 있다. 거기에 유럽의 ‘아르데코’를 더 해 아름다운 여성, 그 존재를 그리는 것만으로도 이치로 츠루타만의 독특한 스타일을 완성시켜온 것이다.

‘아름다움’을 추구하는 작가로서 전세계 사람들에게 인증 받고 싶은 욕심보다는 보다 깊고 심도 있는 자신만의 예술을 추구하는 작가. 데뷔 40년이 넘었지만 오늘도 ‘아름다움’을 향한 이유 있는 탐닉을 계속하는 작가. 컬쳐엠매거진이 일본을 대표하는 미인화 작가, 이치로 츠루타를 만났다.
